Seven Steps to a Spotless Bathroom

Your bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the house, and one of the most dirty. So why is keeping it clean so hard? Most of our time spent in the bathroom is when we are in a rush to get somewhere, we shower, brush our teeth, comb our hair and then run out the door. So it’s easy to overlook giving it a good cleaning. Keeping a bathroom clean can be especially hard when you are sharing it with someone else, clothes pile up, hair products, makeup, you name it and it’s cluttering your countertops. So what is the best way to stay on top of keeping your bathroom clean? Here are seven steps to help you keep your bathroom spotless.

De-clutter

The first, and arguably most important, step in cleaning your bathroom is decluttering. When your floors are covered in laundry and your vanity is cluttered with products and other miscellaneous things it is impossible for you to even start cleaning. Grabbing a trash bag and throwing away extra half empty bottles, trash, and other junk is your first step towards a cleaner bathroom. While you declutter also come up with storage solutions that will prevent junk from creeping back into your bathroom. Have a problem with laundry on the bathroom floor? Get a laundry basket for your bathroom. Have medicine bottles all over your vanity? Invest in a medicine cabinet. You get the idea, survey your common problem areas, and come up with solutions that will work for you.

Trash, Trash, Trash

One issue related to de-cluttering is emptying your bathroom’s trash on a regular basis. The kitchen trash is easy to remember, who can forget that smell? But the trash in your bathroom is harder to remember. Set up a schedule for taking it out, rather than just doing it when you happen to remember.

Scrub those Floors

Your bathroom floors take so much abuse, and can hold so much bacteria. It’s important to deep clean them periodically, in addition to regular sweeping, mopping and vacuuming. If you’ve got a tile floor, clean the grout between the tiles and mop until they shine. If you have bath mats or rugs in your bathroom, also make sure to wash them periodically, as they can hold bacteria.

Shower/Tub

Your shower can get grimy and gross in a heartbeat. In addition to regular deep cleanings, get a spray cleaner that can be used each time you get out of the shower. A gentler, daily cleaner will help maintain a clean shower or tub in between deep cleanings.

Toilet

The dreaded cleaning job, the toilet. No one likes to scrub a toilet, but it’s a necessary evil, and we all have to do it. Much like with your shower, there are steps you can take to maintain a clean toilet longer, and make deep cleaning easier. Products are available that can be placed in the toilet bowl that gradually release cleaners each time the toilet is flushed. While these cleaners don’t replace a deep cleaning, they can make your job easier.

Counters, Sinks, and Mirrors

Over time your bathroom counters get grimy, and your mirrors smudged and splattered and overall dirty. To keep your bathroom spotless, add counter, sink and mirror cleaning into your routine. This task is made easier after you’ve decluttered, and when you’ve created an organization solution for your toiletries.

Dusting

One final, often overlooked, thing to add into your bathroom cleaning routine is dusting. Whether it’s the back of your toilet, shelving, or your bathroom fan, dusting will help keep your bathroom in tip top shape.
